The BYD Shark 6 is a dual-cab plug-in hybrid ute with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, seating for five and braked towing of up to 3,500kg. Offered in Dynamic cab-chassis, Premium and Performance variants, it pairs a turbocharged petrol engine and electric motors on both axles with vehicle-to-load power outlets, giving tradies, families and adventurers an electrified alternative in the 4x4 ute segment.
Performance
The Shark 6 plug-in hybrid system combines a turbo petrol engine with an electric motor on each axle and a 29.6kWh battery, delivering 321kW and 650Nm on the Dynamic and Premium, and 350kW and 700Nm on the Performance. The Performance lists a 0-100km/h time of 5.5 seconds and an 80km WLTP electric range, with all-wheel drive and selectable driving modes. Independent double wishbone suspension supports ride comfort.
Practicality
Built on a ladder-frame chassis, the Shark 6 measures about 5.46 metres long on a 3,260mm wheelbase and lists 230mm of ground clearance, 700mm of wading depth and a 725kg payload on the Performance. Power outlets in the tray and cabin provide V2L capability for tools, campsites or appliances, while a bedliner, side steps and a 60-litre fuel tank suit work and touring.
Features
Safety technology includes seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking with vulnerable road user detection, lane keeping, blind spot sensors, front and rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention detection and front, rear and side cameras. Inside are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 11-speaker stereo, satellite navigation, a head-up display and ventilated front seats, though equipment varies by variant.
