The Hyundai Kona is a small SUV available in Australia with petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains, all front-wheel drive. A 4,350mm body, dual 12.3-inch wide displays, Smart Cruise Control on all variants and Hyundai SmartSense safety technology make it a flexible option for city commuters, small families and drivers comparing petrol, hybrid and electric small SUVs.
Performance
Hyundai offers the Kona with a 110kW/180Nm petrol engine at 6.6L/100km, a 146kW/265Nm petrol option at 6.2L/100km, a 104kW/265Nm Hybrid rated at 3.9L/100km, and the Kona Electric with 146kW and 265Nm. The Electric lists a WLTP range of 370km to 505km depending on variant, with DC fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent in about 45 minutes. Hybrid models self-charge using Smart Regenerative Braking.
Practicality
The Kona provides 407 litres of boot space, expanding to 1,241 litres (VDA) with the rear seats folded, and a spare tyre is stowed under the cargo floor. Rear passengers get heating and cooling vents, a fold-down armrest with cupholders and two USB-C ports. Hyundai lists a towing capacity of up to 1,300kg when the genuine accessory is fitted, and the compact footprint suits city streets and tight car parks.
